GLOBAL NETWORK OF SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTERPRISE PARTNERS

AISD is developing a global network of small business partners and associations that supplements and complements our core capabilities, links us into regional markets, and allows us to be operational rapidly and cost effectively in select countries. AISD currently has partnerships in Canada, China, Croatia, Jordan, Sri Lanka, Uganda and the United States.

AISD works through public-private partnerships to leverage commercial business strategies in support of the development objectives of governments, donors, non-governmental organizations and local communities. AISD’s approach is to seek pragmatic, sustainable, market-oriented solutions that create “win-win” opportunities for communities, public organizations and enterprises. AISD brings the private sector perspective and the creativity needed to find the key propositions that motivate specific resource partners and stakeholders to participate in public-private alliances that will multiply the impact of donor assistance. AISD in engaged in a variety of partnerships and alliances aimed at creating more sustainable solutions to the challenges of global poverty:

Partnerships in the seafood industry. AISD is a sponsor of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, an international, nonprofit trade association dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture. AISD also cooperates with the Aquaculture Certification Council to promote standards and certifications for environmentally and socially sustainable aquaculture. AISD has an extensive network among major US and EU seafood buyers and input suppliers, allowing us to link communities and enterprises into global value chains.

South American Ornamental Fish Ecolable Consotium. AISD is a member of a consortium led by the New England Aquarium in Boston to promote sustainable harvest, aquaculture, and certification of ornamental fish from the Amazon Basin.

Partnerships with relief organizations. AISD works with a number of relief organization to identify and develop sustainable post conflict livelihood opportunities by linking communities and enterprises into global markets and value chains.

AISD serves as the fisheries and aquaculture expert member of the network, which is aimed at improving the effectiveness of initiatives that support developing country capacity and participation in the implementation of trade-developing country capacity and participation in the implementation of trade-related social, environment and sanitary/phytosanitary standards and related measures through information sharing, policy research and capacity building.

AISD is a member of CIR, a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit educational resource that arranges visits for more than 300 international visitors each year and offers lectures and other programs to stimulate local dialogue about current world affairs.

AISD is a member of the SBAIC, a membership forum established to share resource information, discuss industry trends, and promote equity in USAID contracting. SBAIC has established Standards for Meaningful Utilization of small business and guidelines to best practices in their application.

Global Aquaculture Alliance
The Global Aquaculture Alliance is an international, nonprofit trade association dedicated to advancing environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture. GAA recognizes that aquaculture — the culture and farming of fish, shellfish and other aquatic organisms — is the only sustainable means of increasing seafood supply to meet growing food needs. GAA therefore promotes best management practices for sustainable aquaculture through its Responsible Aquaculture Program, conferences and other activities.

The Competitiveness Institute (TCI)
The Competitiveness Institute is a not-for-profit alliance of cluster practitioners. TCI’s mission is to improve living standards and the local competitiveness of regions throughout the world, by fostering cluster-based development initiatives.
