Iraq Reconstruction

AISD provided technical services to the USAID/Middle East Bureau, Office of Middle East Affairs, Yemen Desk, and the Office of Iraq Reconstruction, as Senior Economic Growth Advisor. (January 2009-July 2010)

Subcontract to MSI for the USAID-funded National and Provincial Administrative Reform Project, (Tarabot). The Iraqi government serves 30 million people, and the project will help the long-term stability of the Iraqi government through institutional capacity development.

For USAID/Iraq, AISD designed, organized and facilitated a series of three workshops in Amman, Jordan to support the $70 million Iraq Community Action Program (ICAP) to create jobs through community participation in reconstruction and development. Participants were representatives of five non-government organizations: Mercy Corps, International Reconstruction and Development (IRD), ACDI/VOCA, Save the Children, and Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF). (2003-2004)

Afghanistan

For the USAID-funded Afghanistan Alternative Livelihoods Program (ALP-E), AISD conducted an assessment of the poultry sub-sector in Eastern Afghanistan and designed a sector development strategy with sector stakeholders identifying specific areas for critical donor, public and private sector interventions. Provided technical and managerial advice for the establishment and operation of agribusinesses linked to the poultry value chain, specifically breeder farms, hatcheries, feed mills and broiler farms, in close collaboration with the Eastern Region Poultry Farmers Association. ALP-E was implemented by DAI, to strengthen the Afghan Government’s capacity to address the problem of illicit poppy cultivation by promoting improved economic opportunities and the diverse regional economic growth-(2006, 2007)

Somaliland

The USAID-funded Somalia Economic Growth and Livelihoods Initiative (SEGLI) implemented by DAI, hired AISD to conduct a comprehensive strategic value chain assessment of the fisheries sector in Somaliland, including the development of a value chain map. AISD recommended specific strategic investments and interventions in cold chain as fundamental to efforts to upgrade the sector. (June-September 2011)

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Design of a $30 million White House-mandated assistance to the Federation of Bosnia and Hercegovina to strengthen the negotiated settlement and promote ethnic reconciliation between Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Muslims through participatory community development and reconstruction activities. (1994-1995)
